How to replace latch on plastic case?

How to replace latch on plastic case?

Just now - 204 sockets ended on the floor.

Plastic blow-molded case latch fatigued off.

Poor design.

Tried to plastic weld it back but failed miserably.

It's tough plastic - I believe it can be pop riveted. Anything in Bunning's armory might suit/fit?

Cheers.

The other side...The other side...

Possibilities, or something similar?

Re: Looking for Latch Ideas for Plastic Case.

Hi @Noyade

I suggest having a look at these catch plates and see which one fits your tool case:

Please double check your measurements or bring the empty cool case to the store to make sure the catch plate fits the front profile.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Eric

Thanks very much for that @EricL

The one you have illustrated looks great.

I'll have a look this weekend - and update you.

Cheers.

Hi @Noyade

When the latch on mine did the same, I just bought a length of velcro that went right round the case!

G'day @R4addZ !

Yes - I considered that! 😁

It weighs 15 kg - too heavy for just the plastic strips the case came with and fatigue is setting in

I'd like to see your case - maybe we can improve on the velcro?

Re: How to replace latch on plastic case?

I bought a latch today - as rain is predicted for the weekend. The Goliath selection was rather diminished - only your illustrated latch was available @EricL

Here's the problem again...

Re: How to replace latch on plastic case?

Best fit as I could determine was with the main body on the lower side - but that plastic ridge was interfering with the fit.

So with a little 300 watt hot-air blower I was able to heat the plastic and push that ridge down...

Re: How to replace latch on plastic case?

Next I positioned the latch - but I found with drilling up front - the drill tip tended to skip and slide, despite being just plastic.

So I punched holes with a very sharp scribe, then drilled....and pop-riveted.

Re: How to replace latch on plastic case?

Works 100% better than the original.

But for symmetry - do the other side? Or is that tempting fate - just wait for them to break?

Thanks again for the hardware tip @EricL  - one of many things that makes this site great.

Cheers.
