Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include MelaminePlywood and MDF.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

Update 14/08/2024: The Bunnings team have provided the following information on our cutting service.

  • Cuts to timber and panels boards are rounded up off to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts.

  • Minimum length of cut timber is 600mm

  • Customer are required to purchase an remaining offcuts measuring less than 1800mm

  • Multiple timber cuts may incur a charge of $1 per cut.

As always, our helpful members are ready to assist with any questions you have on completing precision cuts for your D.I.Y. projects at home.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Re: In Store Cutting Service

Hi @EricL

"Please keep in mind that the saws at the shop are not made for precision cutting."

I'm surprised, looking at them I thought they were very precise, but no? They certainly look expensive. 😁

For 3mm MDF sheets I find those 'Mini-Circular Saws' light and accurate - provided they have a 'shoe' that can be held against a clamped straight edge.

I think Ozito make one - or something similar?

Will they cut wooden lattice? I want to buy a piece that’s 2400 x 600 and want it cut into 4 squares.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hello @cara23

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thanks for joining the discussion.

Due to the soft nature of the wooden lattice I'm afraid the shop saw will not be able to cut it. The shop saw uses a very large blade with large, serrated teeth and operates at extreme speed. If the lattice gets caught in one of the teeth it could break the lattice instead of producing a clean cut.

If you are after a precise clean cut, I recommend using a Trojan 200mm Dovetail Saw. Despite its small appearance it will easily cut through the timber lattice without damaging its arrangement.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately I’ll have to look elsewhere otherwise I might have to cut it in the carpark to fit it in my car.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hi team,

Does Bunnings cut long pieces of wood lengthways? I'm planning to buy a 200mm x 50mm x 3000mm treated pine H4 sleeper and have it cut so that there are two pieces of 100mm x 50mm x 3000mm. If so, how much would it cost?

The red line in the diagram below is where the cut will be made.

Thanks!

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Hello @HenryL1,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thanks for joining the discussion.

I'm sorry but the shop saw is not able to do a rip cut. It can cut the timber shorter but is not capable of cutting it lengthwise. I recommend using a circular saw to cut the timber in half.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Which bunnings store cuts H4 treated pine sleeper

Hi Team,

I am thinking of creating a few planter boxes and found posts suggesting using H4 treated pine. However, I realised th when I approached store staff in Kingsgrove bunnings,   they mentioned that they don't cut treated pine sleepers due to health/safety reasons. It is suggested to me that a larger bunnings with outdoor area might be able to offer such service as the wood cutting bay won't necessarily be indoors - I wonder whether anyone here knows which other bunnings store offers such a service to cut H4 treated pine?

Thank you!

Hi @MitchellMc

Just wondering if bunning cut to size service able to do 2200x600x26mm Acacia hardwood project panels. Will be at rockdale store. Thank you

Re: pc desk

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @miao90wen and @egabriandana. It's wonderful to have you join us.

Treated Pine sleepers and project panels have been items that we have previously not cut on our saws. There are plans to make this service available in the near future. However, our team is currently undergoing training to facilitate this process. I've spoken with the team leaders at your closest stores and at this time we are unable to cut those items. I do apologise for the inconvenience.

If you'd like to provide details of the cuts you require, I trust our knowledgeable members would be more than happy to advise the best methods for doing so at home.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Mitchell
