Re: mortar replace

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jennymelbourne. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about mortar.

Is the mortar remaining within the bricks powdery and soft? If you take a flathead screwdriver and scrape it, could you easily remove it? If so, you'd likely need to employ the services of a tradesperson who specialises in brick wall stabilisation. There are methods to stabilise the mortar and prevent further deterioration, but they might not be as simple as adding new mortar on top.

Mortar should not deteriorate significantly from water running down the wall, so it indicates that there could be an underlying issue that needs to be investigated by a professional.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: mortar replace

Hi Mitchell

Thank you for the advice, where should I get the inspection? what's the name of the specialist?

Re: mortar replace

Hello @jennymelbourne

You'll need to google perhaps a brickwork restoration specialist or a brickwork repair company around your vicinity. You can then ask them if they are willing to investigate the condition of your mortar and see if they can prevent further deterioration.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
