How to paint metal verandah posts?
Part 2 of my verandah painting questions.
I have gal verandah posts with peeling paint. How do I get rid of the paint without messing with the gal finish? I’m sure some of it will come off with a plastic scraper but probably not all.
Do I need to prime after?
Thanks

Re: How to paint metal verandah posts?
Hi @notsohandy88,
You can use a metal scraper, or if the paint is stubborn, you could use a chemical stripper. That won't damage the galvanisation as it is typically hard and thick enough to avoid penetration. You could also sand the paint back; just don't sand the gal surface too aggressively.
For the paint, you could either use Dulux Weathershield or a harder metal paint such as White Knight Rust Guard. Once you've removed the paint, you should clean the post with a scouring pad and Selleys Sugar Soap solution, then thoroughly hose it off. You should prime with Dulux PRECISION® All Metal Primer for better adhesion. For the Rust Guard you should prime with White Knight Rust Guard Medium Grey Metal Primer Paint.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
