How to build a timber screen on brick wall?

I am wanting to create a timber feature on the front of our brick home. It is just a small area. The timber would run vertically. I know I need to attach horizontal battens to the bricks and attach the screening to that. I am wanting something similar to the picture attached. Happy to treat/stain/varnish etc. Whatever is needed to obtain that look. I just don't know what the best type of timber to use is. I'm also happy for the timber to be a little wider. Please let me know what you suggest.

Re: Timber screen

Hello @hdona0

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building a timber screen.

An easy way to recreate the look is by using SpecRite 1800 x 902mm Pre-Oiled Merbau Alternating Slat Fence Panel, but it has that dark colour. If you're after a lighter colour, I suggest looking at 90 x 22mm Decking H3 Treated Pine L/M. You'll need to season the timber and then you can stain it to a colour that you like.

I also suggest having a look at this discussion - Feature wall fence with Matrix screen panels by @diy_hausdesigns

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: Timber screen

Good Morning @hdona0

Id actually like to put @Nailbag 's project forward to answer this one  I cant find it (just been looking) but I am sure he will remember it

Nailbag installed a wall of vertical timbers in his loungeroom, it looks very much like what you are describing.

The wall looks outstanding and solid. It may take a little more effort then buying a pre-built sheet but when you see the result its definently worth it.

Re: Timber screen

Morning @MitchellMc

No 😕 It was the one where he had a fireplace and he may have removed it. In front there was a brick plinth. He built the slatted wall and part of the project he had to wait for the side door? to get moved so he could extend the plinth along the wall and panel it as well. Im sure it was @Nailbag.

I can see the paneling in my head as I Like the look.

Will have to search some more.

Re: How to build a timber screen on brick wall?

Hi @hdona0

The timber slated panels I used that @Dave-1 & @MitchellMc were thinking of were just DAR pine which is really only suitable for internal use even when painted or stained. That look your'e after I have also done as a privacy screen using 42mm x 18mm pre-oil Merbau screening. Alternatively a cost effective method is the SpecRite panels @EricL linked in his post.
