Any ideas on coating pool's internal wall and floor?

We are building a small swimming pool as owner builder in the back of our house. The shell is done by by professional swimming pool builder. I am now looking for how to finish/ coat the pool's internal wall and bottom surface. I am not keen using tiles except one tile line on top. Can you advise what material/ method options I have ?Pool ShellPool Shell

Re: New Swimming Pool Coating

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Shiv. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about coating a swimming pool.

I can think of a couple of options, including applying an epoxy or acrylic-enamel paintable coating or installing a liner. Did you chat with the company that built the shell about what options would be available? The finish you have there currently looks too rough for a painted coating, and I'd presume you'd need to skim coat with cement over the whole shell's surface to smooth it out. Perhaps you might like to speak with a professional pool surfacer to get an idea of what coatings would require professional installation and what coatings you could attempt yourself. Personally, I haven't heard of anyone coating their own pool shell before, but I'm sure it is possible if that's the route you're looking to take.

I trust that if any of our members have experience coating a pool, they'll be more than happy to add to the discussion.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I Mitchell,

Thanks for your reply, Very helpful.

Yes the shell builder was talking about pebblecret to apply. Is this something available from Bunnings?
we are building as owner builder and have tight budget. I am thinking to do further work on pool myself. Is there something available from Bunnings to smooth out the rough surface? Then I can apply a coat of enamel paint or something like this you suggested.

Re: Any ideas on coating pool's internal wall and floor?

Hello @Shiv

Putting in the sealer of the pool is a serious matter. I'm in total agreement with my colleague's recommendation that the surface of your pool is skim-coated. This will provide a straight surface for the sealer to be applied on and there will be no weak spots in the seal. I'm aware you're on a budget, however, having a professional seal the pool will give you a good warranty and you won't need to buy specialist tools or equipment.

Generally, skim-coating is like putting on a very smooth render on your swimming pool's surface. But even before you attempt to do this, I also recommend speaking to a professional pool surfacer, there might be steps or procedures that are critical before you skim coat your pool.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.
