Hi,
I am looking to paint our garage door to look like wood. It looks simple enough just not sure what paint to use.
There's a tutorial at https://inmyownstyle.com/diy-garage-door-painting-ideas.html
But it is US based so they use paint we don't have.
Just wondering what our equivalent would be in Dulux or alike.
Thanks
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jimmyR. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about applying wood-look finishes.
The tutorial you referenced uses products like glazes and liquid mixing mediums, which are not commonly available in Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any equivalent products locally that would work the same way.
In our range, we carry standard exterior paints like Dulux Weathershield, which are designed for solid, durable coats rather than creating faux wood effects. While these paints are excellent for weather resistance and longevity, they aren’t formulated for glazing techniques or layered finishes that mimic wood grain.
If you're keen on achieving a wood-look effect, one option is to experiment with multiple shades of exterior paint and use techniques like dragging or dry brushing to simulate the appearance of wood grain. Be aware that applying the paint in this technique would likely affect your warranty on them.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @jimmyR
It wasn't cheap, but I have seen a sectional door that was vinyl wrapped. They were doing the job at a house I was working at and looked amazing. It would be much cheaper if you had a single panel door, so might be worth a quote?
