Hi folks,
I'm planning on a small project to build an extension 10m2.
Attached is a draft frame drawing (unfinished).
There are 3 walls need to be cladded with weatherboard.
Can you please give me some advice on?
1. Between James Hardie Primeline Newport vs Weathertex Primelok Federation Smooth, which one is more reliable?
2. Do I need to use battens between frame stubs and weatherboard? People recommend battens system to ensure airflow and avoid condensation.
Thank you so much.
Hi @tan_tran81,
Did you decide on what cladding you'll be using? Once we know what product you'll be going with, we can reference its installation guide to find out what sized battens you would need to use.

Hi Mitchell,
Sorry for late reply.
I will be using JH PrimeLine Newport https://www.bunnings.com.au/james-hardie-4200-x-170-x-9mm-primeline-newport-weatherboard_p0710340
It's small extension appx 10m2 from a brick house.
I live in Sydney so the humidity level is not quite extreme.
Thank you,
Tan
Hi @tan_tran81,
Here's the installation guide. Provided you use sarking under the cladding, there is no need for battens, and you can affix the weatherboard directly to your stud frame.
