Hi there,
I want to add a little workshop area in the corner of my garage. The intention is to place it in the area highlighted in red, and I am planning on having some storage shelves at the top with a pin board for my tools and work bench that I can store items underneath.
However, to get started I need something secure to secure items like the shelves to. Should I be using framing timber to create between the metal beams then secure some particle board? Not sure what the best approach is and would appreciate some thoughts!
Thanks!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Babny002. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a workshop area.
In order to hang shelves, you'll need a solid backing for them. Since you are looking to create a workspace, perhaps you could consider building this project: How to build a workbench. That would give you storage, a workbench, and pegboard, and you'd easily be able to add another section of timber at the top, extending up and connecting to the horizontal ceiling timber already installed, providing you with a space to attach shelving. Also, check out our Top 10 most popular workbench projects for more inspiration.
I suggest this method because the workbench supports the majority of the weight rather than your shed wall. I'm unable to judge whether your shed could support your intended weight or whether the metal beams would be suitable mounting points.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
