Does Bunnings cut wood to size?
Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.
Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.
What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?
Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.
- Docking saw - used to cut long lengths of timber down to size. The machine can cut across the length of timber at a 90-degree angle. Examples of products that can be cut on a docking saw include Pine framing, MDF mouldings, Pine mouldings, Tasmanian Oak mouldings, Merbau decking and Pine decking.
- Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include Melamine, Plywood and MDF.
Is this service available at my local Bunnings?
You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:
- Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer
- Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.
Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?
Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.
When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?
Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.
What if I want to do the cutting at home?
Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:
- Types of power saws and their uses
- Get to know your circular saw
- Get to know your jigsaw
- How to cut a laminate benchtop
- How to cut a bamboo benchtop.
What if I can't get my timber home?
We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.
Update 14/08/2024: The Bunnings team have provided the following information on our cutting service.
- Cuts to timber and panels boards are rounded up off to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts.
- Minimum length of cut timber is 600mm
- Customer are required to purchase an remaining offcuts measuring less than 1800mm
- Multiple timber cuts may incur a charge of $1 per cut.
As always, our helpful members are ready to assist with any questions you have on completing precision cuts for your D.I.Y. projects at home.
Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Hi @mattcabs,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment regarding this new policy, I understand that it would cause some frustration if you have relied on this service in the past.
I will pass on your feedback.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?
Hi Mitchell
I'm going to reclad my outdoor tool cupboard with Bunnings plywood, which I need to be cut into 2750 x 450mm panels.
I'm aware that Bunnings has recently specified that the minimum length of cut timber is 600mm. Does this refer only to the longest side of a piece of cut timber (that is, length as opposed to width) or to any dimension of the cut timber?
I'm hoping it refers to just the length, otherwise I'll have to look elsewhere to get my panels cut to 450mm wide.
Many thanks for your advice,
Simon

Re: Does Bunnings cut wood to size?
Hi @simonmcg,
Unfortunately, due to a recent policy change, we are only able to cut timber to the nearest 100 millimetres, so it would not be possible to have your plywood cut to this specific size.
I'd be happy to help if you wanted to cut the plywood yourself, however you would need a few tools including a circular saw, spirit level and some clamps.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Does Bunnings cut timber to size?
My local Bunnings offers a cutting service yet when I asked about getting stuff cut to a specific size, I was told it could only be cut for ease of transport and the saw is not exact as it's a rough cut? Should I insist on getting 27 cuts out of a 2200x1200x 6mm mdf board into 80mm strips?

Re: Does Bunnings cut timber to size?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Wogolin. It's sensational to have you join us.
Recent policy changes have seen the following implemented:
- Cuts to timber and panel boards are rounded up off to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts
- Minimum length of cut timber is 600mm.
Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to cut your 80mm strips due to the above.
Please let us know if you'd like any advice on cutting the strips at home.

Re: timber sleepers cutting
Hi @Mo2,
Are these sleepers that you already have at home or ones that you intend to purchase from one of our stores? We do offer a cutting service in-store for our products. There are some limitations, though: the minimum cut length is 600mm, and cut lengths are rounded up to the nearest 100mm.
If these are sleepers you have at home, then you could purchase a circular saw to complete the cuts. Something like the Ryobi 1500W 184mm Corded Circular Saw would be sufficient. We don't have hire saws suitable for this job.
You'll find this D.I.Y. guide to the circular saw helpful.
If it's just the two cuts, then you should consider using a handsaw. It won't take much effort to cut through the sleepers twice.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: timber sleepers cutting
Hi @MitchellMc
I was told a few years ago that Bunnings do not cut treated pine. Is this still the case?
