The old laundry wasn't functional and as it is located in a hallway it wasn't very nice to look at! We wanted to do something unique and useful for our small house. We were inspired by a previous Bunnings magazine where there was a tiled basin and wanted to do the same.
Gyprock
Tiles
Paint
Cement sheeting
Waterproofing, tile glue and grout
Skirting board
Quad
AEG Circular saw, drill, impact driver, angle grinder
Makita sander

General tiling and painting tools
Step 1: Existing laundry. It had tiled floors and this single basin. One shelf for storage. The door was also on the wrong side which got in the way.
Step 2: We stripped the existing gyprock and tiled flooring and built the basin. It is framed with pine and cement sheeting over the top. The dimensions matched the tiles that we chose and allows for a washing machine one side and a dryer on the other. It is also large enough to fit a small/medium dog for a bath.
Step 3: Waterproofed and tiled the basin, installed new vinyl plank flooring and tapware. The room was also painted during this time.
Step 4Step 4: Installed custom milled recalimed cypress pine benchtops and open shelf. Also installed the upper cupboard. The timbers had gaps to allow for heat and moisture escape from running the machines. There is also an exhaust fan in the room. Below the basin is a two shelf shoe rack. The shoe rack is completely removable for access to plumbing. The benchtop closest to the window is also hinged to allow for top loading washing machines.
Hi @katzie01,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you join us.
Wow, what a fantastic laundry!
I love the tiles you've used; the slight colour changes give the basin so much depth and building the basin to suit the dimensions of the tiles has given it a fantastic finish.
Congratulations on a wonderful project.

Afternoon @katzie01
Beautiful and functional is how I would describe it, tho the first thing that shoulted in my mind was "Easy to wash doggy bath" I love how you have that lower edge for the doogy bath, way too many times Ive had to wash a dog that loves to play in puddles....
The other part I really like is the slatted benches! Beautiful thinking!
Nice addition to the house and outside the box thinking!
