This tiny 1.5m by 1.8m laundry in our apartment is the only room that was left original (1970's). We wanted to DIY as much as possible and stick to a budget of $2000.
Could not have done this without the help of the great team on the Bunnings workshop forum answering all my questions.
* Cabinets are Ikea
* Both benchtops are cut from one single Ikea benchtop
* Handles, floor tiles were purchased from Amazon
* Tap fixtures were purchased from Bunnings
* Plantation shutters were custom made
* Impact drill
* Tile cutter
* Hand saw
* Metal saw
* Jigsaw
All purchased from Bunnings
The first step was to lay the stick on floor tiles.
Whilst they did not say they should be used with any additional adhesive, we found the adhesive they came with to be very weak, so we used construction adhesive purchased from Bunnings to bond these to the tiles.
We cut them as needed to fit around the corners, leaving a gap of 1-2cm because we were going to place skirting over the top anyway.
Additionally we removed the existing few tiles behind the laundry sink and the existing sink itself, which was cemented into the wall.
Next we installed the pullout bin cabinet.
This is just an Ikea cabinet with the side pieces, and the benchtop cut down to size.
Note also the skirting boards now applied, these were from Bunnings and painted white.
Next we installed the main sink cabinet and the smaller one next to it.
The smaller one was really difficult, because we had to cut the depth down by about 20cm because of the column, but it had to match perfectly the front of the one next to it.
We also attached the floating cabinet, which needed the rear cut out for the powerpoint to fit.
After installing all the cabinets we cut the benchtop to fit around the column in the corner and where the sink will go.
Finishing touches!
Installed the wall tiles, plantation shutters and the taps.
Hello @dchur
Thank you very much for posting that update on your laundry makeover project. It looks fantastic and I'm glad you've chosen a light-coloured benchtop as it has really made the room look bigger than what it actually is. The change in flooring has really made the room quite modern, but the plantation shutters has really given it a posh look.
Again, thank you for sharing such a fantastic project.
Eric
