New Ryobi charger not working? Can't see to charge

IMG_20250102_141932[1].jpgHello

Just bought a roller blind and a Ryobi one drill driver starter kit. Never used a drill before but charged it up (only to 3 bars though) and tried to use a 2 mm drill bit to drill into the window architrave for the pilot hole. I was unable to get the 10 piece drill bit set as the guy there couldn't find it - so I just bought the 2 mm  bit. The drill bit barely penetrated. I then used the bigger drill bit which came with the drill and still no change. I thought maybe the architrave had a dead bit of wood and tried it on a bit of softer wood but still no penetration. It seemed that the drill just had no power. I tried it on various settings - 20, then around 10 then 1 then on drill. None of these made a difference. I then thought perhaps the 3 bars hadn't actually charged the drill enough so I went to recharge again just now. I plugged the charger in and a red light flashed on and 3 bars lit up but then when the light changed to green all bar lights went off. It's still like that now. Is this just a faulty charger or did I so something wrong in using the drill with only 3 bars charged initially? You can press a button on the charger to show the lights but as soon as you release the battery bar lights go out again.

Very disappointed at the wasted time of all this. After plugging inAfter plugging ingreen light and barsgreen light and barsgreen light no barsgreen light no bars

Re: New Ryobi charger not working? Can't see to charge

Hi @LorenClayton,

In your image, the battery shows four bars, which is full charge. The charger also shows a solid green light, which indicates the battery is full.

When drilling, the clutch should be set to the drill image. The numbers are for screwing.

This might be a silly question, but my hunch would be that you have the drill in reverse. Next to the trigger is a toggle switch which controls forward and reverse for screwing. Try flicking that switch and drilling again.

Let me know how you go, and we can troubleshoot further.

Re: New Ryobi charger not working? Can't see to charge

Ha ha, yes I had the drill on 1 not drill. So the battery was OK after all. Thank you Mitchell. You guys are lifesavers. I finally got the roller blind up. I still had trouble with the upper architrave (maybe a steel beam up there or something) so screws not entirely flush but there were also holes in the side of the fitting so I could get side screws in so they're flush against the timber at the sides. The drill comes with a phillips head driver so that helped a lot getting the screws in! It's far from perfect but I'm happy with it and saved myself a bundle. Thank you once again.

Nice work, @LorenClayton!

I'm glad to hear you got it sorted. Well done.
