Hi; My name is Gordon otherwise known as "Flash" to my friends.

I have always been 'handy' most of my life and now in my senior years I want to be better at the skills I have picked up over the years; at a slower pace I must add but better at them.

I have tackled most of the house renovation issues to some degree but flatly refused to do tiling. I believe tile fixing to be a specialised skill and my 'tradesman's

eye' tells me they must be placed evenly, square, flat and true. I shudder when I see some of the tiling jobs both professionally and amateur that are horribly out of sync and all over the place. I am hoping this community can eleborate on some useful tips for me.(What corner of the room do you start in, do you start from the centre of the kitchen sink and work out from there, how do you lay tiles on un-even surfaces etc. etc)

Well I am one step closer.  I think.??

Had a builder came around and I liked the fact that after the inital shock,  he came up with very similar ideas to me....

Just curious though  is $30 per hour a reasonable rate?  or is it too low?  so that I could get into trouble?

Will have to post some images of kitchen area etc,  

First I better read the rules

Well said Andy_Mann.  I have been browsing the site and am noticing how well Jason caters to so many different interests and makes the atmosphere very friendly and welcoming.  That takes a lot of energy and he makes it look effortless. Thanks to the whole team.

I see from your other post that you are a fitter/welder by trade. I'm sure you have a great deal of knowledge, experience and skill that you can share with the community. I also hope you find plenty of ideas and tips on the site to assist with your projects around the home. I'm looking forward to hearing about some of your projects and plans soon.

Hi there,
I'm the newbie on the block!!!
I'm a farmer together with my husband and we decided 9 years ago to build our dream home with the idea of building it entirely ourselves with our own money, so no builder or bank loan, Just hubby with an owner builders permit and me the lackie, gofer ha-ha!

Thanks for the reply Jason. MY next project you may have gathered is tiling!

I built a 4 room 'flat' inside my shed which was originally going to be just a fibreglass shower/toilet kit project to service my workshop, but I saw the potential for a better setup so continued constructing. I now want to tile the Kitchenette area mainly for the experience because it will involve tiles on the floor and tiles around taps etc. over a sink; something I have never tackled before. Any basic tips would be appreciated. Cheers.
