How to unscrew a damaged screw?

I've got a digital meat thermometer and I need to unscrew the back to put in the battery, however the screw on the back won't unscrew. The screw is tiny. Any tips on getting it out? Or shops who can help?

Re: how to unscrew a damaged screw

Hi @aimz27446,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

A trick that I have had success with several times is to place a rubber band over the screw and then firmly press the screwdriver into the rubber band and the screw beneath.

The rubber band will help to fill the spaces where the screw has been stripped and provide friction that will assist in gripping the screw.

Give this a try and let me know how you go.

If this doesn't work, you may need to drill out the screw and replace it with a new one or even replace the meat thermometer altogether.

If this is the case, this Jumbuck Digital Meat Thermometer is a reasonably priced replacement.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
