How to repair veneer with paint?

Kia ora koutou,

I am wondering if anyone can help me locate a product (hopefully available in NZ) that I can use to repair small blemishes in veneer.

YouTube videos from the US and UK show paint sets that folk use on top of (sanded) wood putty to replicate the grain effect of slightly damaged veneer, but I haven't been able to find anything similar here. (The US products sold on Amazon are not available for delivery here).
Does anyone have any experience and advice they could offer?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Repairing veneer with veneer paints

Hi @asmwmb,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you join us.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a veneer repair kit, but there is certainly a massive variety of paint and products that you could use.

There are timber-coloured paints that you could use in conjunction with some fine brushes such as the Paint Partner 15 Piece Artist Brush Set.

Is it possible to get some photos of the veneer?

It will our help members narrow down a method you could use for the repair.

Allow me to tag some of our helpful members to see if they have any experience with this kind of repair, @diy_hausdesigns, @EdwardJ, @TedBear, @homeinmelbourne.

Let me know if you need assistance uploading images, I'd be more than happy to help.

Jacob
