Hello,
Trying to figure out how I could add a fly screen to this window. There is no gap where it could fit when the window closes on the outside of the frame and the crank mechanism on the inside would obstruct any square frame.
Any ideas?
They fit on the inside of the trim which the window shuts up against with a cutout around the winder mechanism. Or put a spacer in either side of the winder and use a normal rectangle screen on the inside. This will give you some ideas https://www.alwindows.com.au/blog/how-to-install-a-fly-screen-window/ JDE
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Derby_Homer. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing flyscreens.
It's great to see that @JDE has already jumped into the discussion and offered some helpful assistance.
You need to create a flat edge for the bottom of the flyscreen to sit on top of. If you can't get a hold of the spacer @JDE mentioned, you could fashion something out of some aluminium box tubing. You'd need to cut a small section out of the bottom to slot over the top of the winder mechanism. The section can be removed with a hack saw or Dremel.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
