Hi,
I recently purchased a Hume newington entrance door and it has a green coating on it.
Can you advise on how to prepare and paint the door please. Which products should I get to prepare the green coating so the paint will stick ?
I have painted a lot of walls but never an entrance door (note the door is protected by a verandah and won't get wet.
Thanks Kathy
Hello @kpw098 (Kathy)
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting your door.
The green coating you're looking at is actually primer. Technically the surface of this door is ready to be painted. But before you paint the surface, I recommend giving it a light sand. To expedite the sanding process, I recommend investing in an electric sander such as the Ryobi 18V ONE+ Palm Sander Kit.
Because it is an external door, I suggest using a primer such as Zinsser 1L Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Undercoat Primer Sealer Stain Blocker. It's a water-based primer which makes it easy to work with and you only need to use water to clean up the brushes. As for the topcoat, I suggest using a water-based external paint.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to paint a front door
