How to make Hypertufa garden items

I wish to make  some concrete garden  items but I’m confused about which cement to  use . I live in a rural area and our range of items is limited plus  the lovely staff are not experienced in my request for product suggestion . I also wish to know brands of items required to make hypertufa garden projects . Appreciate any advice.

Re: How to make Hypertufa garden items

Hello @Zigee

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about making hypertufa garden items.

I propose using the following materials for your hypertufa:

The only other things you'll need are a container to form the hypertufa ornament itself and a release agent like WD-40 325g Multi-Use Classic Spray. Just remember that your mixture is measured 1:1:1, that will be one scoop of peat, one scoop of vermiculite and one scoop of mortar all in equal measure. Make sure to mix them well while it's dry and not to add too much water. Your goal is to be able to gather the mixture and form a solid ball in your hand without it falling apart. When you get to that consistency you can then begin building your hypertufa object.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to make Hypertufa garden items

Many thanks for your Hypertufa advice but still would like to know which cement products you recommend for a novice to make items like cement gumboots etc . I’m female , 76 years old and I love to experiment but I’ve done it the hard way  ie rapid set cement which I have sifted to remove the large aggregate to make mushrooms etc like balls .

Re: How to make Hypertufa garden items

Hi @Zigee

Dingo 10kg Mortar Mix is a pre-mix cement, containing sand, and hydrated lime. This mortar is suitable for all types of masonry repairs and does not contain aggregate which makes it ideal for D.I.Y projects. I also suggest having a look at this discussion - D.I.Y. cement planter pots by @hannah, and this guide - How to make cement planter pots

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
