Re: How to fix cracking sliding door jamb to hebel wall?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @scott8. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cracks in Hebel.

The crack around your sliding door jamb could be an aesthetic issue that can be addressed relatively easily. Filling the crack with Sikaflex 11FC is a good starting point, as it’s a flexible sealant that adheres well to Hebel, providing a durable finish.

However, it’s important to consider the possibility of underlying movement in the door frame, which might be contributing to the cracking. If the frame isn't securely fixed to the Hebel wall, any slight movement could cause the crack to worsen over time. Start by inspecting how the frame is attached to the Hebel. If you find that the fixings are sparse or not securely anchored, it might be worth adding more fixings to stabilise the frame.

Before repairing the crack, also check for any signs of ongoing movement or settling, such as misalignment of the door or difficulty in sliding. If you notice these issues, you might need to look into adjusting or reinforcing the frame to prevent further movement. Once you’re confident that the frame is secure, you can go ahead and fill the crack with Sikaflex 11FC, smoothing it out to blend with the surrounding surface.

If the crack reappears or if you’re unsure about the stability of the frame, it might be wise to consult a professional. They can assess whether there’s a more significant issue at play, such as structural movement, that might need addressing to prevent further damage.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
