Hi all,
we have an outdoor tap that makes a horrendous noise when being used with the hose, see video:
my husband thinks it is because the hose is quite long (approx 20metre) and to do with the pressure, but I think it is the tap. Any ideas?? The tap is only a couple of years old on our new house, but has made this noise pretty much since we moved in.
TIA!
Hello @LisaG13579
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your noisy garden tap.
It could be a combination of factors, or it could be the tap itself. The only way to find out is to do a little bit of an investigation. Remove your hose and turn the tap on and observe if the tap still makes noise. If it does, odds are it is the jumper valve that is making the noise. For one reason or another when water passes through your tap it creates a resonance that vibrates the jumper valve. Thereby creating that noise. I suggest replacing the jumper valve with a better quality one such as the 12mm Copper Tap Valves - Pack of 2.
However, if there is no noise with the hose detached, it's probable that your garden hose is creating the pressure difference and producing the resonance. I recommend turning on your garden tap and testing the different functions of your garden gun and see if one function eliminates the noise. If the noise remains, I suggest installing a GARDENA 13mm Hose Connector With Control Valve to reduce the flow of water.
If after trying both methods and you still have that noise present, I suggest engaging the services of a plumber to see if they could possibly diagnose it as having something to do with the water pressure or the tap itself.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
