Looking to install laminated flooring but I have to a certain level of sound proofing the ratings used are IIC and STC. I've got some bunning products "Laminate Handwood 7MM" item 0591717 AND Flooring under Lamilay 2MM" I have no idea how to find these ratings?
Hello @smahuta

Thank you for your patience.

Hi @smahuta,
For 7mm laminate flooring combined with a 2mm underlayment, the estimated soundproofing performance is moderate, with an Impact Insulation Class (IIC) of around 40-50 and a Sound Transmission Class (STC) of approximately 45-50.
This setup offers a decent reduction of impact noise, such as light footsteps or minor impacts, but heavier impacts may still be noticeable. Similarly, airborne sounds like conversations or TV noise are somewhat muted but not completely blocked. While this configuration is suitable for single-level residential homes with minimal soundproofing requirements, it may not meet stricter standards often mandated in multi-story buildings like apartments or condos. For improved soundproofing, consider adding rugs in high-traffic areas and using furniture pads.
If you can let us know the ratings that you need to achieve, that would help us make suggestions on suitable products. If this is an apartment governed by a body corporate, you might like to ask them what suitable flooring solutions other residents have used that comply with their requirements.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell, I am after a rating of 55, I belive need this for both the laminated flooring and the underlay.
Hi @smahuta
To increase the IIC you could use a thicker underlay such as the Qep 2mm Ixpe Acoustic Pro Underlay or the Ultimate Flooring Rubber Acoustic Underlay. If that is not enough, I suggest using a thicker laminate flooring such as the Floor Select 8mm Harbour Oak Water Resistant Laminate Flooring or the Smart Flooring Medina 12mm 1.77sqm Pearl White Laminate Flooring.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @smahuta
Just waiting for the other suppliers to answer as only one of them have sent me the information you're asking for.
Thank you for your patience.
Eric
Hello @smahuta
I'll be sending you an email in regards to the acoustic underlay. However, in regards to the other materials, I'm afraid there is no immediate source of information regarding their IIC and STM ratings.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Thanks Eric, if you have other products that have an suitable stm and IIc rating I be interested.
