For those whose soak-well might not seem to be coping with the autumn rain, note that the addition of some undiluted liquid soil wetting agent such as "WettaSoil" to the soak-wells via the closest gutter to each soak-wells will help keep the soak-wells working properly and make them more effective. This is especially true where you have a garden with eucalyptus and other trees and plants that produce oils that are washed off onto the grounds as well as into the gutters then the soak-wells increasing the hydrophobic nature of the soil (and soak-wells). Adopting a habit of adding soil wetting agents to the soak-wells each year prior to the first heavy autumn rains will mean that the water that enters the soak-wells will more easily soak into the soil around and beneath the soak-wells and help prevent them bubbling over where the down-pipe enter the soak-wells.
Many thanks for the great advice, @aussiblue. I trust any of our members with soak-wells will really appreciate it.
How long have you been adding the WettaSoil to your soak-wells?
Mitchell
I have been adding it each Autumn from the early 1990's.
