How can I fix hole too big for screw in plaster wall?

In the house I'm in, the holder for the heater zapper wiggles so the screw and rawlplug are now too small for the hole. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Evanss10,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Is it possible to get some photos of the problem spot? Also, how heavy is the heater?

It is fairly likely that you will have to get a new plasterboard anchor such as these Ramset Nylon WallMate Plasterboard Anchors and move the location of the heater. If the heater is particularly heavy, you can use an anchor rated to a higher weight capacity such as these Ramset Super Wallmate Toggle Anchors.

Once you've installed the new plasterboard anchors, you can patch the hole in the plasterboard with a Selleys Spakfilla Wall Repair Kit, give it a sand and then some paint to match the rest of the wall.

You might like to check out How to Fix a Hole in the Wall for some guidance.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi @Evanss10,

I'd say you will.

Keep in mind, you're going to have to shift the new plasterboard anchors over at least 50mm to ensure you aren't fracturing the existing plasterboard.

Let me know how you go and if you run into any issues, don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you very much. I think I'll just repair, cover and paint. I don't see much point in the holder on the wall anyway. You've been very helpful.
