I'm trying to do the finishings for this step down from the kitchen to the laundry. I originally thought a block of wood and then some rubber overlay but wanted to check other options.

If you’re after a simple and sturdy solution, a timber stair nosing from Bunnings could be a great fit. You can stain or paint it to match your flooring, and it provides a clean edge while protecting the step.
