I have a verandah at the back of the house with compressed concrete flooring. What would be best - timber or tiles?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @APJ. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about flooring for a verandah.
Perhaps you might like to post some images of the area so our members have a better idea of what you'd like to accomplish.
Is this compressed cement sheeting? You can tile over it if it is something similar to HardiePanel. That would be a relatively neat and straightforward solution.
If you want to construct a deck, you'll need a timber frame over the compressed sheet. This will obviously raise the height of the verandah. Is there a door threshold height that you need to take into account? It's typically not good practice to step out a door and immediately up onto a deck. This creates a significant trip hazard.
Regarding what would be the best choice, that really comes down to what look you are going for. Tiles require less maintenance but can lack the warmth of a timber deck. However, we stock a fantastic range of outdoor tiles that you might like to look at, and there are plenty of options to consider.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
