My grass has been over taken by this weed. I just need help identifying my grass type and what type of weed this is.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @ab1992. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about lawn weeds.
It looks like you have a buffalo grass lawn, and the weed you're dealing with is likely Summer grass (also known as summer paspalum). Summer grass is common in lawns, especially in areas where the grass isn't thriving or is a bit sparse.
To manage Summer grass, hand-pulling can be effective in smaller patches, but it often returns in unhealthy or sparse areas. Strengthening your buffalo grass lawn by encouraging it to spread and thicken will help reduce the opportunity for Summer grass to establish itself.
For a more targeted approach, you can use a post-emergent herbicide. A product like David Grays Crabgrass and Clover Killer works well for this. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully, as these products should only be applied to spot-treat Summer grass in your buffalo lawn to avoid damage. If needed, you can also use a non-selective herbicide like Roundup with a paintbrush or weed wand for more precision. Just make sure to avoid the buffalo grass to prevent harm to your lawn.
