I am looking to build a number of possum boxes. What is the difference between BC grade plywood and AA marine plywood and if I use an exterior paint on the BC plywood will that material be suitable for this task?
Hi @Don57,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
BC and AA refer to the appearance grade of the plywood. BC plywood will have many more knots and imperfections, whereas AA will have almost no imperfections.
If sealed well with an exterior paint such as Taubmans Sunproof Exterior Paint or Dulux Weathershield Exterior Paint, either is usable.
The choice is yours, but marine plywood would be better at resisting rot if water were to penetrate the seal that the paint creates. If you are looking for longevity with less upkeep, marine ply would be the way to go.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
