Trying to fill up the pool. The retractable hose pulls out just fine and locks into position. After about a minute it suddenly tugs and starts to reel the whole hose back into the reel. I pull it back out, it locks again as it should then a minute later bang it reels back in! Never had this issue before. What can I do?? Thanks!
Hi @Kapster,
Let’s try some troubleshooting steps to figure out why your retractable hose reel is behaving this way. Since this issue has only just started, it’s possible the hose or reel has developed a fault, or it might relate to how the hose is positioned while filling the pool.
First, remove the hose from the pool entirely and let it run for a few minutes without placing it in the water. If the retraction mechanism works properly in this situation, locking and staying extended as expected, it suggests the issue is likely related to how the hose is being used in the pool rather than a fault in the hose reel itself.
If you are submerging several metres of the hose into the pool, the weight of the water-filled hose sinking to the bottom might create extra tension on the reel. This tension can sometimes trigger the locking mechanism to release, causing the hose to retract unexpectedly. To resolve this, try keeping the hose on the edge of the pool with only the nozzle submerged. You can secure the hose in place by positioning a heavy object, such as a brick or a large stone, over the hose on the coping edge. This should prevent the reel from experiencing undue strain while still allowing you to fill the pool.
If the problem persists even when the hose isn’t submerged, the reel’s locking mechanism may be worn or malfunctioning. In that case, you might need to consider replacing the reel.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Oh wow that’s so weird as I’ve always submerged the hose into the pool to fill it and this has never happened- but I’ve tried your suggestion and have the hose sitting out of the water filling the pool and it seems to be working well! At least we can top it up and have a swim now, thank you so much for the advice!
