Hi I am looking at building a pergola area. The rafters will have a span of 5.0 metres, spacing of 600mm. The roof will have Trimdeck & a ceiling weight of 40kgs/square metre
I am wondering what size H3 treated pine MGP10 or MGP12 timber I will need?
I am looking for span tables covering MGP10 or MGP12 H3 timber
regards
ian
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @ipakkys64. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about timber spans.
Five metres is a significant distance to span. If you take a look at this span table from our supplier, Woodhouse, you'll see that you'd need something like F7 280 x 42mm to cover the five-metre span. MGP10 and 12 are gradings most commonly seen with solid timber and not laminated timber. You might find solid Pine in 280mm, but that is a huge piece of Pine. We stock up to 240mm. Alternatively, you'd be looking at laminating two timbers to achieve the span.
Due to the large span, I would encourage you to enlist the services of a structural engineer to prepare the plans.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
