Re: insalling a blind

Hi @kritin,

A fascia board isn't a structural member, so it's not designed to support the weight and loads that an outdoor blind will place on it. Attaching the blind directly to the fascia could lead to damage or failure over time. You’ll need to secure the blind through the fascia board and into the structural roof members behind it.

These roof members are typically located every metre or so along the fascia, and you may be able to spot the fixing locations where the fascia is attached to the roof members.

For the fixings, you’ll want screws or bolts that are long enough to penetrate through the fascia (about 25mm thick) and into the structural members. A 75mm screw should be suitable for this. The diameter of the screw will depend on the size of the holes in the brackets for the outdoor blind, so once you know that you can select the appropriate size. If you can share the bracket details or let me know the hole size, I can suggest a specific type of fixing for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hey mitchell,

thanks for the reply. Please see the attached photos by any chance are you able to advise where these roof members will be behind the fascia and how to locate it?

Re: insalling a blind

Hi @kritin,

Thanks for sharing the photos. I can see you have a metal fascia, which, unlike timber, doesn’t show obvious fixing locations to indicate where the internal timber structural members are located. Unfortunately, the only surefire way to locate the roof members behind the fascia would be to remove the fascia temporarily, mark the locations of the structural members, and then re-install it.

Alternatively, you can examine the eaves sheets beneath the fascia. These sheets are typically fixed into the bottom of the structural members with screws or nails. By checking for these fixings, you might be able to approximate the location of the timber members without having to remove the fascia.
