How to stop water running outside of PVC pipe?

HI, I installed agi pipe to fix a boggy backyard problem that worked but unfortunately I have noticed during a downpour that some water is running along the outside of the pvc pipe connected to the grease trap and coming in around the sides of the pipe within the greasetrap.

I feel the agi pipe trench the gravel underneath is allowing the water to hit the pvc pipe and following this smooth surface to the greasetrap.

We have a clay layer about 30cm below & seems to be clay the whole way down, I think this is the problem

Re: Surface & groundwater running outside of PVC pipe

Ok thankyou.

What are your thoughts about the problem of the water once it's sealed at greasetrap since it will have been blocked from releasing there

Re: Surface & groundwater running outside of PVC pipe

Hi @bigbird21,

If I am following correctly, then sealing around the pipe should just make the water sitting in the grease trap flow down the PVC pipe to the septic instead of tracking down the outside of the pipe.

This seems ideal to me, so I don't see any real issues.

Let me know if I am missing something.

No it's not the greasetrap water leaking out it's water leaking into it from the outside

Re: Surface & groundwater running outside of PVC pipe

Ok @bigbird21, I understand now. I had thought it was the other way around.

If you seal around that pipe, then the water will just find the next path of least resistance, which will more than likely be straight down into the ground. I can't see any issues with that either.

Let me know what you think.
