How to stabilise planter box on balcony edge without fixing?

How to stabilise planter box on balcony edge without fixing?

We have a 3 metre balcony edge, of which a steel planter box runs three quarters of the length. We do not want to screw or permanently fix the planter box to the edge but are looking at stabilising it. We were thinking of building a H support with brackets on the inside of the balcony to stabilise. With a 5-6 inch wooden ledge on top of the brackets on the inside of the balcony. Lastly, on one end, to fill the last third of the balcony edge a wooden top that goes 5-6 inches either side of the planter box.

Any thoughts on materials or design would be helpful before we proceed.

Re: How to stabilise planter box on balcony edge without fixing?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Teag2. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about stabilising a planter box.

To help us provide more tailored advice, would you be able to upload a few images of the balcony and planter box setup? It would help us better understand what you're working with and suggest the best materials and design options. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images.

Also, since this involves a balcony edge, there are usually a number of regulations surrounding railings and safety. These regulations can impact your available options for placing and stabilising a planter box in that location. Without seeing the situation in more detail, it would be difficult to provide specific advice on how to stabilise the planter box without fixing it, especially considering safety and compliance.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
