How to seal sliding window?

Hi everyone,

I have a sliding window that has a small hole in the wall, which allows water to seep in during rain. I’m looking for a black silicone sealant to effectively seal this area and prevent water intrusion.

I have attached existing images that show the hole and the silicone that was previously applied.

Additionally, could you please advise me on how to apply it properly? Are there any extra steps I need to take in advance, such as cleaning or preparing the surface before application?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Need Help Choosing the Right Silicone Sealant for Sliding Window

Hello @davidc12

It appears that the builder did not put enough silicone in the gap between your window and the wall. I recommend using Selleys 310g Black Roof And Gutter Silicone Sealant. It's a neutral cure silicone that is non-acidic and will not harm your aluminium window frames. It can be used outdoors and has UV protection included. My best advice is to clean your window frames with soap and water and be sure to remove any remnants of the old silicone so that you get a good proper seal.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to silicone seal a bath ( the methods used are applicable to your window project )

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
