How to remove bolts from brick wall?
Hi all! Can I get some advice on how to remove these bolts from my brick veneer wall? They were holding up a timber pergola and originally there was a nut on the end. I assume they are dynabolts?
I have tried punching the inner rod in on a couple, but then I can’t remove the sleeves. I can’t pull them out as they don’t move at all.
Any suggestions on how to remove them? And if cutting them off is the answer, what tool/s should I use?

Re: How to remove bolts from brick wall
Hi @Steph777,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it's great to have you with us.
You are correct that these are Dynabolts. They're likely very similar to these Ramset 10 x 100mm Galvanised DynaBolts.
Dynabolts anchor themselves in place by pulling the bolt through an expansion sleeve when the nut is rotated. You can see them in action on Ramset's YouTube page, at around the 29 second mark of Ramset™ Medium Duty Anchors.
What you've done by knocking the bolt down through the expansion sleeve, is going to give you the best chance of getting them out whole, but sometimes cutting them off is your only option.
Once the bolt has been punched down through the expansion sleeve, you might have some success by using a pair of pliers to grasp the sleeve and then pull and rotate them around the hole. The movement should loosen the anchor and allow you to pull it out.
Unfortunately, like I said earlier, sometimes there's nothing you can do other than cut them off.
You could do this with an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel or if you don't have an angle grinder, you could use a Trojan 300mm Mini Hack Saw.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob

Re: How to remove bolts from brick wall
Thanks JacobZ, I thought I was in the right track. I will have another go and use angle grinder as last resort. Thanks for the reply.

Re: How to remove bolts from brick wall
Hi @Steph777
Just a friendly reminder to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when using a grinder. I hope you manage to pull the sleeve out without having to resort to cutting.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
