How to install a hose hook on vinyl cladding?

Hi team!

On the weekend I purchased a hose hook to install on the outside of our house (for reference https://www.bunnings.com.au/haxbury-black-giardino-hose-hook_p0077864).  Our house is has vinyl cladding and we are currently unable to find a stud behind the cladding to screw the hook into.

Our hose is 30m long so it is quite weighty (for reference https://www.bunnings.com.au/gardena-13mm-x-30m-flex-fitted-garden-hose_p3120800).

Does anyone have a suggestion on how best to get around this problem?  We wanted to try a hook before we move to a portable hose trolley solution.

Re: How to install a hose hook on vinyl cladding?

Hi @chickenhead,

Thank you for your question about installing a hose hook.

Unfortunately, due to the weight of the hose, I don't really see a way of installing your hose hook without finding a stud to screw into or creating a self-supporting structure to attach the hook to.

You could potentially install a post if there is concrete to bolt to or dirt that can be dug out so it can be concreted in.

Did you have some photos of where you are looking to install the hose hook? Our members might be able to offer some suggestions if there was a visual reference.

My suggestion is to look for any butt joins or fixing holes in the vinyl. This will indicate there is a stud behind them that can be used to screw into.

You could also use a studfinder or magnet to help locate concealed fixings.

Let me know if you need a hand uploading images, I'd be happy to assist if required.

Jacob
