Hi I am building I chicken coop.
It will be 2.4 x2.4 and 1.8 high with a timber frame and a color bond roof.
I was planning on using hardie flex cladding for the exterior walls. Can I just mail them on and you this work?
Thanks
Andre
Hi @dreboyy,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Hardieflex can be attached to timbers using Paslode 30 x 2.8mm 500g Galvanised Fibre Cement Nails.
Being a chicken coop, there are likely no construction codes that you'll have to follow, but the HardieFlex Sheet Installation Guide offers some information about how it would be done to pass building inspection and it will be a good resource for you to look through.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Thanks for your reply,
Would I need to paint it or seal the joins?
Or is it water resistant enough?
Hi @dreboyy,
For the best results long term, you should use James Hardie PVC Straight Jointers on the joins and paint the sheets with exterior paint such as Dulux Weathershield.
While fibre cement sheets are weather-resistant, adding a coat of paint and covering the joins will ensure they last for as long as possible.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
