How to add extension to capped timber fence?

Hi,

I need to add Lattice Makers 2400 x 460mm Fence Extension Paling to our existing fence on a side and back.

These extensions seem to fit on uncapped fence. Is it possible to install these on a capped fence?

This is our back fence. Our side is Paling.

This is our side fence (Posts are on our side)

Another problem is, capping is not flat and is similar to this. Will i need to completely remove the capping?

Will weight of the extensions be an issue?

Thanks.

Re: Fence extension over capped timber fence

Hi @Basher123,

As you've determined, these extensions are for uncapped fences, so you won't be able to fit them directly onto your fence. The only way you could get them to fit would be to cut one set of legs off. You could then place the extension on top of the capping and screw the remaining set of legs into your side. Doing this will reduce the extension's ability to resist buffeting winds. I'd suggest you use some angle brackets to connect the screen to the top of the capping, returning some of the structural integrity.

Since your capping sticks out, you'll likely need to add small sections of timber between the legs and the panels to make up this gap. You might even be able to use the legs you've cut off.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
