How and when to reinstall keyway for Masport 4 in 1?

The Masport 4 in 1 is a top product. The mulching facility is excellent.

The 4 bolts holding the blade on can shear - I managed that. Yes, the boss holding the blades on does require a gear puller pref a four claw type. The bolt ends are relatively easy to remove.

My question relates to how and when to reinstall the half moon key. And whether two are required. One for the mulcher blade and the other for the boss itself. There are three keyways on the B&S 625exi.

The parts I have but the devil is always in the detail.

Any help would be good.

Hello @kenholmes

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your Masport 4 in 1 mower.

The half-moon key (or woodruff key) in a Masport Quad Cut or 4-in-1 mower should be replaced if you notice signs of wear, damage, or if it has sheared off, which can happen when the blade hits a hard object like a rock or tree root. This key ensures the blade is properly aligned and secured to the crankshaft. If the blade becomes loose or isn’t rotating correctly, the key may need replacing.

I've been looking for information regarding the number of half-moon keys needed for the Masport 4 in 1 and could not find any online. Please allow us to give our supplier a call and make inquiries regarding the number of halfmoon keys needed. As soon as we have more information, we'll get back to you.

Thank you for your patience.

Eric

Hi @kenholmes,

The Masport technical team encourages you to take the mower to your nearest service centre for assessment. That's most mower shops.

The chipping blade is attached with four bolts, and if the key did not shear as it should to protect the mower and instead the bolts snapped, there is a chance that there has been damage done to the drive shaft. If an impact has caused all four bolts to shear, then the mower should be assessed to ensure it is safe to use, and you shouldn't just re-install the chipper blade and quadcut and continue use.

For information on how the machine is to be reassembled, it would be best to discuss this with a service technician, as incorrect assembly could cause catastrophic injury.
