Hi,
My partner and I are about to start renovating a 1978 Casa Villa caravan... I like the Dark Oak accoustic panelling that at bunnings, and have seen them Installed in camper vans.
Would this be to heavy to put up in caravan as my ceiling.. 8 of them will be needed?
Thanks
Kim
Hi @Kimmark
As great as these panels look, I feel they would be much too heavy to use in a caravan unless it won't be used on the road. Each panel weighs over 11kg and is only 600mm wide compared to the caravan ply they would be replacing which only weighs around 5kg a sheet and is 1220mm wide. 8 panels would be almost 80kg (cut down to length) vs 4 sheets of caravan ply at around 20kg total.
Older caravans only had a small tare weight so you'd be eating into a lot of what you could carry when travelling.
I have seen some caravan renovators use 6mm marine ply and router grooves into it to create their own VJ style paneling, perhaps you could do something similar to keep the weight down and stain it dark to suit.
