Nest of 3 planter stands

I had these small off cut timber boards that were destined for firewood. I was going to make chopping boards out of them, however, I wasn’t sure of the type of glue was used to laminate them together, so I decide to make this set of planter stands, I got the idea from the internet. I used Tasmanian Oak. This project took me six days to complete.

Materials

Offcuts of stair treads, TAS Oak.

12mmx40mm tas oak for splines

Water restraint glue, Titebond II

Water based clear satin varnish.

Sandpaper various grit.

Super glue

Tools

Table saw, Triton

Mitre saw, Makita

Router Table

Small router for spline

Spline jig, home made

Clamps

Sander 125mm Makita

Steps

Step 1

Cut angles on each board on Triton Saw table

Step 2

Glue up and clamp together for two of the stands, for the third stand I used superglue with a spray accelerator and the wood glue, this worked well , no clamping required.

No clamps used for this one, just super glue and wood glue 

Step 3

Make up spline jig and cut and glue splines

Sand  and paint, I used water based clear varnish, applied with a piece off cut sponge, (no brush marks)

Tasmanian Oak is such a beautiful timber and you've done a great job accentuating that with the lack of mechanical fixings and the clear varnish. 

This is a sleek project that will certainly beautify any room that they occupy.
