How to remove door hinge?
I want to remove some of my door hinges. However, I am not sure how it is secured in the first place? The frame is metal and it seems hollow so I don't think it is screwed on. Is the door hinger welded?

Re: Remove door hinge
Hi @victor2605,
Thank you for your question about removing hinges from your steel door frame.
Steel door frames are often manufactured with the hinges welded in place, which appears to be the case in your circumstance.
The only way to remove them will be to cut them off with an angle grinder with a cutting disc.
There will be sparks, so if you decide to do this, please remember to wear gloves, long protective clothing, eye protection and hearing protection and clear the area of anything combustible.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Remove door hinge
Thanks, Jacob. Will the sparks damage wall and floor porcelain tiles or laminate flooring?
Are there hand tools that can cut through it and what kind of gap filler do you suggest to patch the gaps left from the cut? Thank you again.

Re: Remove door hinge
Hello @victor2605
Just to be on the safe side, I suggest covering your tiles and flooring with a non-flammable material to protect it from the sparks. You could use a hack saw to cut the hinge away, but I'm not sure if there is enough space to operate the hand tool. If you do use the grinder, I suggest engaging the services of a tradesperson who can do welding. They will be able to patch up any gaps or holes from the removal of the hinge. I'm afraid there is nothing you could use on the steel surface as a patch especially if the hole/gap left behind is significant. It will be necessary to weld the patch and grind away the excess.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
