How to install Easycraft wall panels over bricks?

Hi

Want to apply easy craft wall panels to one wall in my bedroom. the walls are cement rendered as is an old unit block.

Do I have to put up batons to secure first or can I just glue to wall directly?

Re: Easycraft wall panels

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Unsure. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing VJ panelling.

I'll point you to this discussion covering your exact question in detail: How to attach Vj board to brick wall?

According to the installation guide from EasyCraft, you first need to install timber battens, as the sheets are affixed to them with brad nails. Several of our members have successfully glued and screwed their sheets to the wall. Time will tell if any issues arise from this installation method. One issue might be that movement must be allowed with the sheets as they can expand and contract. If they are fixed directly to a brick wall, this could cause them to bow at joints. The other issue is that traditionally it is not a great practice to fix a board directly to a masonry surface as they tend to become damp, especially if it's an outside wall. Battens help prevent moisture from transferring from the brick wall into the panelling.

You'll need to glue and screw your sheets to the wall. So installing the battens to the wall first might actually speed up the process; otherwise, you'll need to use masonry screws to affix the sheets directly to the wall.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Easycraft wall panels

Hi, what size battens would you recommend I install to my brick plastered wall before installing the panels?

Hi @jordcam1983,

Here's the installation guide for timber frames. No specific battens are required, but fixings must penetrate the timber at least 30mm. So, you'd need to use 40mm nails, and the timber must be at least 30mm thick. 70 x 35mm on its face would be sufficient.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

So 70x35mm battens fixed to the solid brick walls?

Yes, that's it, @jordcam1983.
