How long to wait to hang TV after installing VJ panels?

Hi, we have installed vj panels with liquid nails and screws that goes in the studs. How long should we wait for before hanging TV on the wall panels?

Re: waiting time for vj panels to settle before hanging tv

Evening @sud

I wouldnt recommend hanging the tv off the panels themselves :surprised: that would be tempting fate

If you are hanging the tv off the studs then really you could start as soon as your paint drys  You could do it now but think it would be a tidier job painting first and hanging the tv afterwards  The screws will be the long term holders of the VJ board.

Are you going to do the hidden cabling? I know Bunnings sells these DETA White Brush Wall Cover Plate - Single Pack plus a hanger DETA Plaster Clip Bracket - Single Pack I have used them before and they make for a tidy job. Id also suggest to run an extra drawwire so you can run other cables later on  And yep I ended up glad I had done so as well.

Re: waiting time for vj panels to settle before hanging tv

Hi @sud

When it comes to VJ panels, it's important to note that, like plasterboard, they are not really designed to hold heavy items like a TV directly. The panels themselves are typically not strong enough to support the weight of a TV.

As Dave mentioned, the best approach is to hang your TV directly from the timber studs behind the panels. If the studs aren't in the ideal location for mounting, you can install a bridging piece of timber between the studs. This will provide a solid surface to securely fix the TV mount onto. Here's a previous discussion on the topic: How to mount a TV.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Sorry my question wasn't clearly formed. Tv would definitely not hang on vj panels. We have marked the studs before the panel installation.

Yup, cable hiding mechanism already installed. Appreciate you sharing about that.

Really good to know about bridge thing! Thanks for sharing that.

Ok so tv can go anytime since we are hanging it on studs. So that's sorted.

Now about painting the panels, are these rollers suitable for painting the

panels?

Re: waiting time for vj panels to settle before hanging tv

Hi @sud,

Typically, you would use a higher nap roller, somewhere in the 10-15mm range, however you can get the job done just fine with these rollers, it may just take a little extra time because they won't hold as much paint.

If you want to use the one you have there are no issues, but these UNi-PRO 230mm 10mm Nap Microfibre Paint Roller Covers would be ideal.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: waiting time for vj panels to settle before hanging tv

HI Jacob, thanks for you response. The said VJ panels are easycraft vj panels. We are thinking to apply enamel paint on it. Is that suitable choice for the panels? If so, then is the nap you suggested appropriate for enamel paint?

Cheers,

Suman

Re: waiting time for vj panels to settle before hanging tv

Hi @sud,

Enamel paint is usually used for doors, door frames, window frames, timber trims and skirting boards and is not what I would recommend for this application.

You're better off using Dulux Wash&Wear Interior Paint with a compatible primer such as Dulux 1Step Prep Primer, Sealer & Undercoat.

When using the Dulux Wash & Wear, the rollers I have mentioned are perfect.

Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
