Re: How to cover trip hazard on carpet?

Hi @RLL,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

I'm fairly confident this is an electrical outlet box, which is common in commercial offices. Is that correct?

If this is a recent office fitout, and you have only just taken handover, I would be asking the builder if they can return as these electrical boxes are supposed to sit flush with the finished flooring. The ideal solution is for the concrete to be rebated so the electrical box sits as it should, flush with the carpet.

If this is not an option, do you know if the carpet was cut around it or was it installed over the carpet?

If the carpet was cut around it, I would lift the edge and put some foam or rubber beneath to slightly raise the carpet edge to the height of the outlet box. You could use something like this Jack 50 x 5mm x 1m Adhesive Rubber Foam beneath the carpet to achieve this.

If this is not possible as the electrical outlet box was installed after the carpet, then you could use edge-protecting foam such as this Perma Child Safety 5m Adhesive Foam Edge Protector Roll around the box. Ultimately, the box will still be raised when compared with its surroundings, but the foam will protect the toes of anyone who kicks it.

Ultimately, if the builder is still involved with the process, this is something they should be rectifying, but the options I've mentioned above should help.

Let me know what you think.

Jacob
