need to make a cupboads top

Hi, we had in the past a big tall cupboard. We removed the top cabinets and only left the cabinets at the bottom, Now ,  we need a top so look nice and complete . What can you suggest here (type of wood, thickness) and what material I will need ? Measurements about 1.34m x 0.3m.

I got quoted $600 to make one , sounds too much and I wonder if there is any other way to make this look better without spending too much.

Afternoon @luisa

When I saw your picture I had a few different styles of timber come to mind.

SpecRite 1800 x 405mm 18mm Timber Panel Beech FJ Laminated Note that this one is only 18mm thick.

or

Practa 2200 x 600 x 26mm Acacia Timber Benchtop  at 26mm thick.

There are a range of styles and colourings that you can have a look at I looked up timber bench tops tops first and they were thicker at 36mm but easily more expensive, timber table tops were thinner bt still had a nice range.

Instead of cutting the timber perfectlty to the dimensions of the top, how about a 40mm-50mm overhang at the front. You dont want to make it harder to see whats in the cuopboards but at the same time a little wider top might be nice. You can secure the top with screws from underneath the cupboards into the timber top. Just make sure the timber screws are shorter by 10mm and drill pilot holes so the timber wont want to split easily.

Re: need to make a cupboads top

Hi @luisa,

Thank you for your question.

The options @Dave-1 has mentioned look like great options that won't break the bank.

There is a wide variety of Kitchen Benchtops that you can choose from, so have a look and see what you like.

They come in different styles and finishes, so I'm sure you'll be able to find something that suits your aesthetic.

Check out How To Cut Laminate Benchtop for some guidance on cutting your benchtop.

You could also order a Cut to Measure Benchtop through your local store's Special Orders desk if you don't have the tools to cut them yourself.

You can then use How To Install a Laminate Benchtop as a guide for installing your benchtop.

You might also like to check out our Custom Benchtop Installation service as an option that could work for you.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
