Hello,
Im currently in the middle of organising the concrete countertops for my kitchen. I see a lot of different recommendation for the concrete to use. So i'm just wanting to know what you would recommend, as well as a concrete sealer for the countertops. I would like the sealer to stop the stains from acidy foods if possible.
Thank you
Jessica Fisher
Hello @Jessfisher22
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about making a concrete countertop.
I suggest having a look at this discussion - Concrete tabletop project by @markw. It's a very comprehensive article and mentions the materials used to create the benchtop. They used Easy Mix 20kg 55MPa Super Strength Concrete it's two and a half times stronger than regular concrete.
I also recommend looking at this article - How to sand a concrete benchtop for an outdoor kitchen? by @tony84.
In regards to the sealer, I suggest having a look at the Crommelin Range of concrete sealers.
My best advice regarding the initial build is to make sure that the benchtop frame is square and secure. It's also important that the trapped air bubbles in the concrete be removed so that you get a solid slab of concrete with no compromised areas.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a proper respirator when working on your concrete benchtop.
