Wanting some inspiration/design layout ideas for Practa Straight Line Modular Kitchen Flat Pack?

I have an area 4150L x 3600W x 2800H (previously kids playroom) and wishing to install Practa kitchenette. I don't require a fully functional kitchen, just something that guests/family could use. I want a sink fitted into benchtop and have looked at adding a 600mm cupboard/drawer to accommodate a 2400mm benchtop. I would like to have a combo microwave/airfryer as my cooking appliance and would appreciate it being overhead on under bench so as to free up bench space. At a loss regarding the design process and where to position cabinets/pantry to be most efficient. Any advice would be welcome.

Hello @HandyAnne

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about installing a kitchenette.

Since you have a large amount of space a 2400mm kitchenette can be installed on either side of your room.

I suggest having a look at this cabinet combination:

The cabinet combination I suggested takes advantage of the drawer system being 500mm. You'll therefore get a maximum 2-meter length kitchen. The benchtop will need to be trimmed down a little in order to fit the cabinetry.

In regards to the microwave shelf, I suggest using a standard pine panel cut to the size of the footprint of the machine. I propose using Carinya 300 x 300 x 40 x 6mm Heavy Duty Angle Bracket - Black in a reverse installation to hide the bracket from view.

Please have a look at the cabinet layout below and let me know if you wish to modify its setup.

Re: Wanting some inspiration/design layout ideas for Practa Straight Line Modular Kitchen Flat Pack?

Hi Eric, really appreciate your reply and inspiration. I was hoping to use the https://www.bunnings.com.au/practa-straight-line-modular-kitchen-flat-pack_p2660830 with the https://www.bunnings.com.au/practa-2400-x-600-x-25mm-blue-grey-laminate-worktop_p2660835 with the addition of a 600mm cabinet or drawer to accommodate the 2400 benchtop. I love the pantry you suggested but the one included in the straight-line kitchen does not have the drawers. I would like the design reversed where the pantry is on the right-hand side. A friend has suggested that I need a sink + drainer, so if that could be factored in that would be appreciated. What is the measurement from bench top to overhead cupboards? Do you think i could use 600x300 tiles horizontally as my splash back? I am still wanting the microwave included in the cabinetry to avoid using up my bench space.

Thank you for your help

Hi @HandyAnne,

There should be no issue with moving the pantry to the other end of the kitchenette, however, you would need to make some alterations to include the microwave in the wall-hung cabinets. I believe this is why Eric has recommended the products that he has, to accommodate the alterations that you would like while still fitting into a similar footprint to the modular kitchen pack.

I'm so sorry, but I don't have access to the render file that my colleague @EricL has done to make some adjustments. He will be back online soon, and as our resident kitchen design master, I'm sure he can come up with a great solution for you.

Re: Wanting some inspiration/design layout ideas for Practa Straight Line Modular Kitchen Flat Pack?

Hello @HandyAnne

In regards to 600mm 3 drawer cabinet you were after, were you by any chance looking at this - Flatpax Utility 600mm 3 Drawer Drawer Cupboard instead of the Practa 500mm 3 Drawer Base Cabinet. I only mention it because the Practa drawer is not compatible with the Practa Straight Line Modular Kitchen Flat Pack as it is not as deep as the modular set.

I've re-arranged the cabinetry for you and did a quick render. The good news is that the Flatpax drawer will work with the Practa modular set. However, there might be a slight difference in the melamine colour finish even though both products are white. Please take note of this when you are putting it together.

In regards to the tiles you mentioned 600x300, my only tip is to fit the tile first to make sure you have enough space before you install the wall cabinets. In regards to the sink, I still recommend going for a circular one. You can purchase a drying rack with a catcher that will drain into the bowl. It can then be put away and you get to maximize the benchtop space.

However, the sample I've drawn has a sink with a drainer attached. Please note that the cabinetry can be switched around to your desired layout.

Re: Wanting some inspiration/design layout ideas for Practa Straight Line Modular Kitchen Flat Pack?

Hi Eric, Many thanks for the update. Yes, I was looking at the Flatpax Utility 600mm 3 Drawer Drawer Cupboard so thank you for incorporating that. Do you feel the colour match would be significant? I think the idea of the round sink is doable?Practa kitchen photo.jpgPracta kitchen 3.jpgPracta kitchen 2.jpg

I have attached some photos of other people's versions of the Practa kitchen that I like the look of. The one with the timber end looks attractive and I like the idea of finishing off the bench like that (is this practical??) Also, the third photo shows a laundry option and I wanted to ask if I went with something like this (eg:washer/dryer in one) do I need a different sink (overflow??).

Apologies for the barrage of questions but I would like to get it correct prior to purchase and installation. Many thanks for all your help?

Re: Wanting some inspiration/design layout ideas for Practa Straight Line Modular Kitchen Flat Pack?

Hello @HandyAnne

It's perfectly alright to ask these questions, it's best to know even before you visit the store. I've not had the opportunity to have these two units' side-by-side, I suggest visiting the biggest store you have in your area as the odds of them having both units on display are very good.

Having the benchtop overhang past the cabinet and turn it into a towel rail is not a bad idea and is very convenient actually. The issue is that you'll need to have the benchtop custom built. The standard 2400mm benchtop will not work as the cabinetry is already at 2400mm.

In regards to the laundry option, the first option is to remove a 600mm cabinet to accommodate the machine. The second option is to add the machine with the cabinetry as is, but you'll need to order a custom-built benchtop at least 3 meters long. There is no need to get a special sink as the machine will have no impact on the type of sink you choose.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
