Soft close worth it?

Hi all,

Just wondering whether soft close cupboard and drawer mechanisms are worth the extra expense? It seems like it might be one of those “nice to have” things that we could possibly strike off the list in our kitchen reno to save some money… Do you think they are worth it?

Hi Sarah - they're a great idea if you have young kids!  No accidental slams of the cutlery draw to wake them after bedtime!  

And when they are awake, the kids can't slam the drawers themselves.

Got them, love them. Wouldn't be (as) happy without them.

How much extra are they? Definitely saves a lot of slams/noise and ultimately can save on some wear n tear by preventing drawers/cupboards from being slammed - but make sure the soft close aren't over worked either.

Besides the noise benefits, they can also make it harder for the kids to slam their fingers. But kids are kids and they'll find a way.

Yes. Definitely worth the money if you like your sleep (and don't want to hear draw and doors slamming closed in the early morning or late at night when the kids get the munchies. But don't bother with the 'push to open' handleless doors. These are a pain. They forever need adjusting to ensure they close properly and actually do open when pushed. The draw runners can also break the mechanism that allows them to push closed. Better to get handles on the doors and draws and just use the more simple soft-close mechanism.
