Hi, we are updating our kitchen and have just replastered the splashback. I had planned to put up aquacheck boards but miscommunication with contractor has left us with regular plasterboard.
It’s my understanding that waterproofing isn’t required for a splashback, but I would prefer to do it anyway to be safe. In chatting with the tiler he’s recommended priming the plasterboard then going over with waterproof membrane. Just hoping to get some advice on whether there’s any specific products I should use for those tasks.
thank you!
Hello @meeganw
Thanks for sharing your question about your splashback. I suggest using Crommelin 1L One Coat Rapid Under-Tile Waterproofing Membrane. It is a premium heavy-duty liquid waterproofing membrane, its formulated to permanently waterproof wet areas prior to tiling. Please make sure to use Crommelin 1L Waterproofing Membrane Surface Primer on any freshly plastered surface. The primer must be totally dry before you apply the waterproofing.
My best advice is to cover your new kitchen with drop sheets to prevent splattering waterproofing on the cabinets and benchtop. Please make sure to give the waterproofing enough time to cure properly before tiling over it.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
